Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wednesday's trip (August 12) was with Wayne Heyland of Greenwich and a business associate, Peter. It was a very rough day on the water—along with some rain showers—but we were able to jig up bluefish 8-9 pounds—as well as some bluefish on the surface caught on plugs.
Thursday was another bumpy afternoon on the water, with 3-4 ft waves coming over the bow while we were jigging in the middle of the Sound. Aboard were father and son, Ray and Jeff Sisler of Bridgeport. We didn't stay out there too long because of the rough conditions, but when we moved closer to shore our passengers landed several striped bass, with the largest coming in at 15 pounds. They also got a lot of porgies up to 14″. No bluefish!
Friday's weather was a welcome relief for all concerned. No winds, perfect temperature, no rain. We fished with Frank Cieffello of Danbury, Brian Mola of Trumbull, and Ralph Martin of Stamford. We began the trip jigging in deep water, where two bluefish 7-8 pounds were brought over the side. We then moved into 100-foot depths and caught four striped bass 31-33″, also caught on jigs. When we moved further toward the Long Island side we found a nice porgy hole, where our passengers brought in a passel of scup, with the largest measuring 14″.
