Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We fished last Wednesday with Dr. David Yan of Fairfield, his parents, and his 10-year-old son, Zack. The doc knew how to handle a rod and reel, but the others were all beginners. They did manage, however, to bring in porgies up to 14", bluefish up to five pounds---caught on lures--and some sea bass. The porgies and blues were taken home to be cooked up Asian style.
Thursday evening we went out at 6pm with Robert Remin of White Plains NY and his stepson, Joseph. We found bluefish on the surface as well as some nice porgies.
Friday morning we fished with Harold Thomas of Ridgefield and his sons, Tyler and Forrest--along with Harold's friend, Hunter Merrin, visiting from Texas. Everyone enjoyed bringing in bluefish up to six pounds as well as some sea bass and porgies.
We had six passengers on Saturday, including Buddy, Jessica, Jocelyn and Owen Barnes of Equinunk PA, who were visiting their Connecticut friends, Greg Barnes of Bridgeport and Steve Barnes of West Haven. It was a bit windy, but all on board were accomplished anglers, and despite a bumpy ride and heavy boat traffic from participants in the annual L.I. Sound Bluefish Contest, they brought in nice bluefish, porgies and fluke.
It was another breezy day on Sunday--also busy with Bluefish Contest hopefuls, but our threesome of Tom Hudson of Wilton, entertaining his Florida buddies--Cliff Barnett of St. Petersberg and Rick Hager of Daytona. They had an exciting day of bringing in huge porgies, some nice blues, and some short sea bass.
Large fluke have, for the post part, moved into deeper waters--but our passengers occasionally manage to land one--and large striper bass are nowhere to be found right now. As the weeks go by and the weather turns cooler we hope to see larger stripers moving through as well as big blues.
