Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We spent Monday and Tuesday entertaining some friends visiting from Sebastian, FL—catching porgies, bluefish and striped bass on both days.
Wednesday morning we went out at 9am with Virginia Kamsky of Wilson Point and NYC—along with her son, Michael, and his friends—brothers, Eyan and Grant Goldman of New York City. It didn't take very long for the first fish to come over the side—two nice striped bass up to 27″. Thestripers were photographed and released. We then switched tackle for porgies and had non-stop action—boating over 70, keeping more than two dozen keepers for a barbecue dinner.
Robert Remin of White Plains, a "My Bonnie" regular, was aboard on Thursday morning—along with our friend/mate, Amin (Emilio) Pandolfi of Danbury. We went eastward, looking for large striped bass, and while on our way we found some large blues on the surface—and plugged some up, weighing up to nine pounds. We then continued further east, using tube & worm. We had two break-offs of large fish but landed one keeper bass and a large blue about 13-14 pounds.
We had a young family aboard on Friday afternoon; Rachel Shillingford and her children, David, Adam and Rebecca of Yonkers NY, all had their first fishing experience ever. They had a great time bringing in porgies (and keeping enough for dinner) and they're planning another outing this fall.
The weather was perfect as we left the dock at 9am Saturday with Don Ienner of Greenwich and his son, Garrett, who lives in NYC-as well as Anais Merle of Greenwich and Greg Merle of NYC. The day began around the Norwalk Islands looking for bass, but porgies kept stealing the bait. We moved into deeper water and jigged for blues and bass-and everyone caught blues up to 14 pounds. The group also wanted to get some keeper porgies for their Labor Day Weekend barbecue, so we moved close to shore and got scup up to 17″. We finished the trip catching schoolie bass.
Sunday's temperatures were very comfortable, but the waters were extremely rough. We left the dock at 11am with David Preiser and his son, Greg, and Nick Leone and his son, Matthew—all of Westport. Because of the high winds we couldn't get far out into the Sound, but staying close to the shoreline we got two nice striped bass, one 26″ and one 27.5″. However, we were unable to hang in there too long and had to move to a more sheltered area because of the wind conditions. It was not a problem because our party enjoyed two and a half hours of steady action with about 5 dozen porgies, 20 of which were kept for the table. Despite the difficult fishing conditions it was a very successful trip.
