Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, the weather has finally warmed up, and we continue to catch stripers, bluefish, and some nice fluke. The arrival of porgies a few days ago brings a sigh of relief for us charter captains. These feisty guys guarantee tight lines for fishermen of all ages, and we always have kids aboard who don't have much patience with chunking and aren't able to cast safely.
Hooking into the biggest fish requires the freshest of bunker for bait, which means rising very early in the morning and finding a nice school from which you can harvest enough bait for the day--or spending a lot of cash buying bunker from a local tackle shop. Years ago I didn't mind being out on the water by 5am to find bunker, but those days are long passed.
Most of my passengers don't want to sail before 7:30am, so we generally miss the prime fishing hours, but we must accommodate their preferences, and--if necessary--we shell out the bucks to buy the bait. We do whatever it takes to get good action for our anglers, most of whom aren't very experienced at saltwater fishing.
