Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather was cool and dry on Tuesday, June 26, and we sailed at 7:30am with Joe Walsh of NYC and his niece and nephew, Sam and Alex. But the winds came up quite suddenly and stayed with us throughout the trip. But the family did well with lots of fluke up to 19.5″, bluefish, and schoolie striped bass.
On Wednesday evening we sailed at 5pm with Robert Remin and two friends–Evan Gilder if White Plains and his young daughter, Rachel. The party enjoyed catching fluke up to 23″ (5.8 lbs) and porgies and bluefish as well as some schoolie bass.
Friday was a scorcher, but we sailed at 8am with Larry Dwyer from the Garden State, along with three young grandsons–all who fished with us around this time last year. Working around the islands we scored on some bass, porgies, bluefish, after which we made our way towards Darien, where we had a nice pick of fluke. We then returned to the Norwalk Islands and found more striped bass and porgies. The family went home with a nice bunch of bluefish and porgy fillets.
Saturday's temps were up in the 90's again, but we left early in the morning with Scott Graflund of Chicago and his 12-year-old son, Cotter. This was Cotter's first saltwater fishing experience–which included boating a 17″ porgy, some fluke, striped bass– and topping off the day with a 10-pound bluefish. All the fish were released.
Sunday morning, July 1, we left the dock at 7:30am with Chris Williams of Weston, celebrating his 42nd birthday with a gift charter from his wife, Bess. Chris had a great time bringing in large blues, and some porgies. Then, with severe storms being predicted for the late afternoon, we set out at 3pm with Westonite, Michael Vranos, and his 14-year-old son, Nicholas–entertaining family visiting from Sweden. Wary of the threatening weather, we stayed fairly close to shore–where we saw tons of bunker schools, with nothing hitting them–but the foursome brought in fluke and large porgies up to 15″, which they took home for their "soccer barbecue."
