Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
We had a few trips last week--some more comfortable than others. On Friday we had to deal with very rough waters. We started out toward 11B with a party of two, Michael Waterworth of Westport, who was entertaining his father, Trevor–visiting from Hemel Hempstead, U.K. But when it became apparent that fishing in that area would be too uncomfortable for our passengers, we switched gears and took the Waterworths closer inland–where they enjoyed steady action, catching a slew of porgies up to 15″ and several blackfish, including a keeper. A family fish-fry was planned for their Friday night dinner.
Sunday's trip was with some regulars, Steve Margolis of Mt. Kisco and his daughter, Laura of White Plains–who brought along her friend, Sean, for his first trip aboard "My Bonnie." It was another day of rough waters for us, but the Margolis party was able to comfortably fish inshore, catching tautog up to four pounds-plus and a mess of porgies up to 14.5″.
Monday, Columbus Day, was probably the nicest day we've had for weeks.…calm water, perfect temps, and fish everywhere. We went out with another "My Bonnie" regular, Virginia Kamsky of Wilson Point and NYC–with her son, Michael, and two of his buddies–Thomas Freund and Simon Heinberg of New York City. At our first stop in the middle of the Sound all aboard had nonstop action jigging up bluefish. Ten were kept for the table. The boys wanted to try something else, so I had my mate switch their gear for bottom fishing, and everyone got into porgies up to 13″ and blackfish up to seven pounds. It was a great day all around.
