Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Wednesday was a beautiful autumn day, and we had a busman's holiday with our sometimes-mate, Amin "Emilio" Pandolfi of Danbury. We headed straight for the middle of the Sound and jigged up bluefish weighing 7-11 pounds. We left them hitting to try for some blackfish, catching a few and keeping a large one for the dinner table. While fishing for blacks we found a large school of porgies, but all were released, as the season ended on October 14.
Friday's trip was with Doug Slater and his dad, Myles Slater of Pound Ridge NY, along with Doug's fishing buddy, Steve. We caught some smallish blues on jigs and then made our way towards Northport, where we found fish on the surface, feeding on peanut bunker--providing great top-water action for more than an hour.
On Sunday, with temps in the 40's and NE winds 15-25, we had to stay close to shore, but our passengers, Bill Leek of Norwalk--along with his son, Art, visiting from Colorado--weren't deterred by the weather. They enjoyed bucktailing schoolie striped bass in the Saugatuck River, but these were the only fish on the menu for the whole trip.
