Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Peter Ackerman of White Plains had a good day early in the week, using light tackle and Creek Chub lures to bring in bluefish up to 13-1/2 pounds.
John Tatti of Congers NY brought some clients to Norwalk for a fishing trip. They caught small blues, porgies, and keeper fluke.
Bud Worley of Las Vegas fished with us for three days. On the first trip, live-lining off of Fish Island near Rowayton, he did well with bluefish 7-10 pounds and two keeper striped bass, coming in at 31" and 35". On his second trip we fished along Sheffield Island, where he boated three keeper bass, 29" 31" and 36"--releasing two and keeping one for the dinner table. His final trip was also exciting; he hooked five bass--boating two, 34" and 38", before heading to the airport to return to Nevada before Isabel's arrival on the East Coast.
While on this trip we came upon a sunken vessel in Wilson Cove. We summoned the Coast Guard because we were especially concerned with oil leakage in a 75-foot radius around the boat. It was heartening to note that the USCG vessel arrived and was ready to deal with the situation in less than a half hour from the time of our call. They had to travel about 11 miles across Long Island Sound to get on site from their base at Eaton's Neck. It appeared that they had achieved containment of the spillage within about 20 minutes of their assessment of the problem.
