Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Carl Bildner of Stamford, and his son, Mark, had a great day catching bluefish on the surface, using chrome Creek Chub poppers. They filled their cooler with a bunch of filets for a family luncheon at the Pasta Fair Restaurant (on the Norwalk/Darien line), where the manager and chef were happy to accommodate their party of five, cooking up the fish Italian-style, with all the trimmings.
Ryan Garrity--a newcomer to Cos Cob and a Westchester golf professional--and his friend, Whitney Cash of North Carolina, enjoyed a great afternoon catching striped bass and bluefish. Both were saltwater novices, but they were good anglers, having had back-home experience with fresh water rod and reel.
Joe Moody of Greenwich and his party that included his brother and their mom, chunked up nice bluefish up to 10 pounds at 28C. We moved closer toward the shore and worked the Westport area, where they boated over half a dozen schoolie stripers—their first experience with striped bass. They, too, took home bluefish filets—but this time for a dinner barbecue at the Greenwich homestead.
Mitchell Kreuch and two of his business associates—and a client from The Netherlands—had a fantastic afternoon bringing in bass up to 25” caught on bucktail lures around Compo Beach and Saugatuck; they finished off the day with porgies, and their entire day’s catch was released.
Frank Chiaffalo of Danbury, a “My Bonnie” regular, brought along two friends for a great morning, tallying 10 striped bass in Saugatuck as well as a nice mess of large porgies at the end of the trip.
Karl Brumback of New York City, and his friend Bill—and their sons—enjoyed catching porgies non-stop, bringing in more than 30, keeping 10 to take home for dinner.
Right now we’re worrying about our Florida boat (in Sebastian, close to where Hurricane Frances made a direct hit). The area is still under a 24-hour curfew as we write this report (Sunday night), so we won’t know about damage for a couple of days. The charters we’ve already booked for this winter are subject to confirmation, of course. We may not even have a roof over our heads, as we expect that Ferndale Lodge is completely flooded out and their dock washed away....
