Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

82-year old Bud Wehrle of Las Vegas made his annual summer trip to Rowayton to visit his sister, and this year he fished with us three times. On Sunday, his best day—in the fog and rain—he brought in nine bluefish from 9-11 pounds and lost almost as many right at the boat.
Marc Pfefferle of Westport brought along his 11-year old daughter and two friends visiting from London. They had a super day, with non-stop action from start to end. While fishing in 75 feet of water they boated more than a dozen blues and three keeper bass (30, 32 and 35”.)
W. Kelso Morrill III of Darien treated his 10-year old daughter, Kaleigh, to their first excursion with us. Using a bucktail, Kaleigh caught her first-ever striped bass, and it was 27”. By the end of the trip—which was truncated by some heavy rains—we tallied 13 stripers, but the largest and strongest fish of the day was the one that got away—actually straightening out and opening up the swivel to free himself after a gallant tug of war with Kelso.
One of our regular clients, Virginia Kamsky of Wilson Point and NYC, sailed with us for her first trip of the season, bringing her 7-year-old son, Michael, and his pal, Ian. We had to move around quite a bit to distance ourselves from a threatening thunderstorm, but everyone managed to hook into some nice-sized bluefish while chunking mid-Sound in deep water.
