Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

MY BONNIE CHARTERS REPORT AUGUST 30, 2005
Robert Remin of White Plains, a “My Bonnie” regular, entertained his brother-in-law, Lawrence and his daughter—also Westchester residents—and they had a good day fishing for bass, catching 13 schoolie-sized stripers, as well as porgies.
Eric Watsinko and his dad, Ted Watsinko, joined up with one of Eric’s electrician colleagues, Tim, and the trio had a great morning catching 14 bass, including one keeper. The day ended with a catch of nine bluefish up to 8 pounds.
Michael Cohen of New York City and Westport returned for his third trip of the season, bringing along his son, Benjamin, and their friend, Sandy. Everyone had a super day, with a half a dozen striped bass, followed by two hours of non-stop action plugging for bluefish on the surface off of Middle Passage. The fish ranged from 3 to 8 pounds, and all aboard were arm weary by the end of the trip.
Peter Esposito of Norwalk took out his son, Nick, for the 10-year old’s first trip with us. They had fun chasing bluefish on the surface off of Copp’s and caught several--all in the 3-5 pound class.
Mark Bildner of Stamford and his father, Carl, had a super day with acres of bluefish off of Southport, boating about two dozen and releasing 12 of the luckier ones. All of the fish ranged from 3 to five pounds.
Fishing with Bob Hertzel of Westport and his son, Greg, long-time clients of “My Bonnie”, we found a school of bluefish off of Northport, and they caught several weighing 2-4 pounds. Later in mid-Sound waters, they reeled in blues up to 12 pounds, using poppers.
Arthur “Chip” Ayr of Shelton and his buddy, Dean, sailed with us for the first time. The catch of the day was striped bass—all schoolie size.
It took a couple of hours of searching last Sunday, but we got Jim Korinek of Stamford and three of his colleagues into bluefish off of Copp’s, and they caught lots of them using an Ava jig and topwater lures.
Joe Castagna, Manager of Pasta Fair in Norwalk, treated his wife and three daughters to a morning of fishing before the kids had to return to school. Everyone got into bluefish off of Cockenoe and Peck’s Ledge—both jigging and on the surface.
Murray Verlin of Stamford returned for his second trip in a week. The 82-year-old and a friend caught blues on the surface, bringing them into the boat without much time in between each catch; all the fish came in between three and nine pounds. We then fished the shorelines of Westport, where they caught school bass on bucktail lures.
