Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
On Saturday morning we sailed with Ted Inglesias of Westport; the trip was birthday gift for his dad—a Bronx resident—and a good fisherman. We started off catching blues on the surface off of Green’s Ledge. Then we picked up schoolie bass up to 24”. At our next stop everyone reeled in porgies—practically nonstop—and quite a few sea bass and blackfish. All the fish were released except for two very large porgies and one nice sea bass.
In the afternoon we sailed for the third time this season with Henry Calam of Greenwich and his friend, Sallie. Henry brought along his three-year-old daughter, as well, and she was a good little cheerleader as the fish were being brought over the side. All told, the catch included 18 striped bass—and a nice mess of porgies and blues.
Sunday morning’s trip was with Jim McMahon of Ridgefield, returning for his second trip for 2006. Along with Jim were his wife and parents, residents of Delaware. Everyone caught striped bass and bluefish up to six pounds. When we fished in deeper water, we also got into porgies and sea bass. All the fish except for two blues were released.
On Sunday afternoon, Chris Croteau of Linden, New Jersey and two buddies joined us for the first time. It was a very hot afternoon with a small armada of boats everywhere we made a stop. The trio, however, enjoyed the day--bringing in ten striped bass, bluefish, and porgies—a minor miracle, considering the amount of criss-crossing traffic of small and large power and sailboats plus jet skis everywhere in sight.
