Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a change of pace from our regular routine on Thursday--and took out Scot Albertson of Norwalk--a scuba diver who likes to look around in the waters on the Long Island Side. Scot is an accomplished singer and spends a great deal of his time in New York City clubs and restaurants. He gave me his latest CD, and my wife and I were quite entertained as we listened to him and his combo.
It was back into the charter mode on Saturday morning--with Daniel Liebersohn, a New York attorney, his son, Jake--and Jake's buddy, Lawrence Sloane--as well as Dan's friend, Lorin Finkelstein of Ardsley NY. We started out fishing for porgies at 20-foot depths off of the Norwalk Islands, where the action was nonstop--with 40 fish brought in, keeping about 12 for the table. We then moved inshore and scored with some nice schoolie bass and bluefish up to 7 pounds--keeping just one.
On Sunday afternoon we fished with James Moriarity from Winneteka, IL, and his three sons--Michael, Charlie and Matthew--here in Connecticut to visit his friend Jim Morris of Greenwich. We started out on a slack tide catching porgies; then as the tide began to move, we went inshore and had a great catch of striped bass, using sandworms, after which we found a school of stripers on the surface, and we hit them with bucktail lures--providing non-stop action for the very enthusiastic anglers. This was the first saltwater experience for the three boys, and they were ecstatic with the results.
Baitfish are still abundant throughout our area, but the blues have been fickle, and you have to be at the right place at the right time.
