Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report

Thursday we sailed in the mid-afternoon with loyal client, Robert Remin of White Plains, who brought along his brother-in-law and nephew, Lawrence Askowitz and Gideon Askowitz of Long Island. The weather couldn't have been better, and we began the trip off of the Norwalk Islands in pursuit of large striped bass (that Remin's been dreaming about catching all winter long.) It didn't take long for us to boat some nice stripers, with the largest coming in at 18 pounds--caught on bunker chunks. As the tide was changing we rigged our tackle for bluefish and headed towards the middle of the Sound, where we found acres of blues feeding on the surface. Our party had 2.5 hours of solid light-tackle action with the bluefish, all in the 5-8 pound range. Everyone went home happy.
Saturday morning we left the dock at 7:00am, with first-timers, Joe Strasser of Bethel CT and Russell Sturges of Fairfield. We first tried some bunker chunking--looking for striped bass--but it wasn't productive, so we then moved elsewhere in pursuit of bluefish. We soon found them on the surface attacking sand eels, and the boys enjoyed steady action for the rest of the trip, bringing in the blues on light tackle.
Monday morning we had aboard Harlan "Bud" Woerhle, on his annual visit from Las Vegas NV--along with his nephew--also Bud--who lives in Wyoming. We found bluefish on the surface off Middle Passage, and the two Buds also caught some nice striped bass, with the largest coming in at 30".
