Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
On Tuesday morning we sailed with Norman Cote of Norwalk, a retired firefighter, and his grandson, Patrick. The action was steady throughout the trip, beginning with the Norwalk Islands--where we did well with schoolie bass and porgies--and continuing around Westport, where the Cotes brought in blues up to 8 pounds and striped bass up to 25".
We had a busman's holiday on Wednesday, going out to Middle Ground with Dr. Steve Eliot (our self-nominated "My Bonnie" scout) on his boat--in pursuit of large striped bass. We didn't find large stripers, but we had many hefty bluefish (10-12 pounds) as well as a lot of schoolies up to 27".
Friday's weather was ideal for being out on the water. We had Ted Stenger of Rye NY, who brought along his brother, Tom, and nephew, Andy, visiting from Chestnut Hill PA. We worked around the Norwalk Islands and brought in blues up to 8 pounds and striped bass up to 29", after which we found blues on the surface--bringing them in on poppers and bucktails. The action was steady throughout the morning, and everyone was very satisfied with the catch. A family barbecue was planned for the evening, and there'll be lots of fish filets on the grill.
