Norwalk Islands - Saltwater Fishing Report
Wednesday's trip was with John Barker of Wilson Point and Michael Hanafee of Norwalk. We jigged up some blues at 11B and pulled porgies and striped bass inside the Norwalk Islands.
We fished on Friday with White Plains resident, Robert Remin, a My Bonnie regular, who took out his teenaged niece and nephew, who live in Long Island. Everyone enjoyed pulling in porgies and schoolie bass close to shore, as well as bluefish up to eight pounds jigged up mid-Sound.
Saturday morning we sailed at 7am with Ofer Vadel of Stamford, along with his uncle, Asher Morgenstern, visiting from Hadera, Israel. The Sound was a bit bumpy, so we stayed close to shore, where the twosome had non-stop porgy action–boating over 35, keeping 15 for the table–and plugging up bluefish up to 11 pounds on light tackle.
On Sunday we left the dock very early; aboard were David Steuber of Darien and his friend, Kim Schwartz of Brooklyn NY. We started out fishing local waters, but the action was slow, so we made our way towards Southport, where we found lots of porgies and bluefish, after which we moved closer to home, where Kim brought in a 27″ striper. Nine porgies were taken home for a dinner barbecue.
On Labor Day we had Mr and Mrs Ken Ly of Stamford, hosting friends who were visiting from New Jersey. The day began with bluefish on the surface with the blitz lasting for about 45 minutes. We then moved closer to shore and found some porgies and two short fluke, and at the end of the trip we did some blind casting, bringing in blues 3-5 pounds. The two couples took home blues and porgies for a holiday barbecue.
After Labor Day we had three rainy days, which gave us a chance to relax, for which we're grateful.
