2013 Christmas Week Fishing Report

Capt. Tom Chaya
December 23, 2013
Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hard bottom areas have provided the best action. We still have decent numbers of sardines due to moderate temperatures and they have been the best bait. Reefs have been holding Spanish mackerel, blues, mangrove snapper, and flounder. Long chum lines should get fish alive. We had the best action in clear water areas from 20 -40 feet. A few late kingfish have been reported in the 10 mile area off Longboat Key. Trout fishing in the bay has been on the increase. Working the shallow sandbars in 1-3 feet have been productive. Most fish are in the 16-18 inch range. Redfish have been in skinny water and are very wary. Most of the big schools have moved on. Snook have been in there Winter areas in canal systems and up creeks and rivers. A few pompano have been around the areas bridges and spoil islands.
