Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Super Bowl is over--time for fishing to take center stage. Winter is almost over and water temps are starting to come up. Spanish Mackerel are showing in bigger numbers around the bay and deep water grass flats. It will not be long before white bait becomes the bait of choice over shrimp and lures. The magic number on the flats seems to be 68 and above. Pompano are in good numbers at the mouth of Tampa Bay as well as the middle grounds in Sarasota Bay. Docks Jigs tipped with a piece of shrimp is hard to beat. For the most consistent action, go to any nearshore reef and drop a fresh shrimp down on a fish finder rig, or just a plane jig head with shrimp.

Spawning schools of sheepshead will likely make up most part of the catch. However, when you're on the reefs, you never know what the next catch might be. Trigger fish, white grunts, porgy, groupers, mangrove snapper, and flounder are just a few.

The prize to me of all is the lucky angler who gets a hogfish.
We are only weeks away from the best fishing of the year. It is time to book for the spring bite!
Thank You & Good Fishing!
