March Fish Report 3/21 to 3/26

Capt. Rick Gross
March 31, 2011
Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing this past week on the Fishy Business out of Catcher's Marina has been great. With water temps in the low seventies just about everything is on the feed. On monday morning I fished the beaches and nearshore reefs with George Vensel and crew. We caught sheepshead, spanish maces, white grunts and catch an release grouper. That afternoon we fished the flats around some oyster bars and caught five redfish up to twenty-four inches all on live shrimp. Glen Heller fished with me on Wednesday morning. We tried for tarpon at the Skyway Bridge on the last part of the outgoing tide. Although we did see a few fish rolling in the shadow line. They did not seem interested in our offerings. I then made a short run to the south next to some mangrove islands. Here the incoming tide was flowing good around a point. We caught and released thirteen snook from twenty-inches to twenty-five inches. Not big fish but a lot of fun on light tackle. Ann Wilkinson fished with me on the afternoon trip. We caught ten redfish up to twenty-five inches a few snook also in the same area and finished up the day with a bunch of spanish mackerel. Chris Richardson was my charter for Thursday. We tried some flats off Longboat Key but only caught small trout and ladyfish. We then came up to Longboat Pass and fished the for sheepshead around the docks. We caught seven keepers up to four pounds. On Friday I was part of a four boat trip from Wells Fargo. The group with me caught big spanish maces, and trout up to four pounds. As well as some catch and release grouper up to twenty-three inches. There goal of fish for lunch was filled easily. On Saturday Pat Knebel and party got on a major mack attack in the morning. If you did not want a fish you had to take your bait out of the water. Every cast was meet with mackerel in the three to four pound class. We only kept four of five then went snook fishing and caught ten snook up to eight pounds. All of the trips this week were half day four hour charters.

Thank You & Good Fishing!
