Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in October has been great with about all species eating. The bait is good size and can be found all over the flats. The bait is moving with the tides from mangroves to flats and the fish are following. October has produced large numbers of redfish and snook, while still catching trout, Spanish macs, and snapper.

Sarasota bay and Tampa Bay have been active for redfish with some of the best fishing at the mouth of the Manatee rive and Terra Ceia bay. Fish the sand pockets on the flats in low tide and then move into the mangroves as the tide rises. Some of the largest redfish have been caught deep in the mangroves. The fish are laying deep under the cover so it is important to get the bait to where the fish are. The snook have been lying on the sand in front of the mangroves and are most active on the strong tides. The trout fishing has been outstanding with a lot of trout caught in the 18" – 20" range. Spanish mackerel are moving onto the flats and have been hitting everything from live bait to spoons. The snapper bite is also hot with a good number of keepers being caught. October is a great month to fish as the water temperatures are starting to drop and fish are aggressively eating.
Good Fishing and be safe!
