September Fishing is Fantastic!

The fishing is September has been great as there is bait everywhere. Although the live bait is still small the fish are hitting it aggressively. The fish are also hitting cut bait and artificial bait. Fish the tides in and out and early in morning or late in the day around the afternoon storms. The live bait has moved deep into the backwaters and up the manatee river and the fish are following.

Just like the kids are back in school so are the redfish. They are moving along the flats in large schools. Sarasota bay and Tampa Bay have been active for redfish. Fish the sand potholes with live bait free lined or us a jig head and keep that bait down bouncing off the bottom. Watch for large schools of mullet moving out of the back waters on outgoing tides and the redfish will follow the mullet. The trout fishing has been outstanding with a lot of trout caught in the 18" – 20" range. Spanish mackerel are moving onto the flats and have been hitting everything from live bait to spoons. The mackerel are schooled up so if you get cut off start using a larger leader because where there has been one mackerel there have been many. Snook fishing has also been great. The snook are hanging deep in the mangroves and must be fished on high tides. In the low tides you will find the snook in the deeper water where there is water movement. You will find the larger snook and redfish around the deeper docks and in the passes. The snapper bite is also hot with a lot of small snapper feeding on the baitfish and the larger snapper holing under the skyway bridge rocks. Good Fishing and be safe!
