AUGUST - "MID-SUMMER" JAX FLORIDA FISHING

Capt. Dave Sipler
August 5, 2010
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Right now it's all about the heat, water temp, and humidity.

ALL charters will start at 7am and end at 1pm. Why? Because I have to do it day after day.

Too bad Holidays, kids back to school, and every other excuse keeps people from fishing when it's cooler.

They ask, "So when is the time of year to fish?"
I tell them, "right when you and the family aren't usually taking vacations....mid to late November, is my favorite."

But we've scrounged up some decent days while working through the warmth, and if it's overcast I'm all excited. If it would just rain, I'd be silly excited.

Around the pinnacle of summer the inshore waters are aching for a serious storm, to bring serious rain. A flush would be nice right about now. And my dead grass, would also enjoy it. The beaches area of Jax is about rain-less.

Here's some of the action from the past week or so.

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
