Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

What's all the reel BUZZZZZZZ, in N.E. Florida right now?

BIG REDS.

WHY?

I guess it's the mullet run, combined with the moon, combined with the shorter days, combined with the spawning big Redbass.

But the buzz is just that. B-U-Z-Z.
Because you can catch these St. Johns big Redfish about any other time too.

Let's see....we had 35 pounders in June, 46 pounders in June, 45 pounders in December, 35 pounders in July.

These weren't FALL caught fish, but rather in the heat of the summer!

So, the St. Johns River around Jax is not an area where they fish don't lurk all year around.

Oh, they LURK...From April to December BIG Reds are around and targetable!

But, it's true. They are spawning now. And like yesterday I can remember when 20-40 in a single tide was an average day.

Now, people seem to be all excited when they catch 4-5 in a single tide.

It's no doubt, "bait-n-wait" fishing. If you don't plan. Because if the tides a screamer, because it's around the Full or New moons. You'll have to wait till the tide gets manageble.

If we have to use more than 8 OUNCES to hold the bottom.......I'll come back later!!

If all goes right, and you know when it's time to drop baits down for them, it can be like my last trip. Where we had a MONSTER hooked up and on running, and the bait wasn't in the water a whole 5 minutes.

These fish are here now. So if you have not ever caught a monster Redbass, Redfish, Red Drum, etc.

IT'S GO TIME!!!

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
