Hot, Hot, Hot, Slick, Slick, Slick

Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Time for chum fishing...

We took off around the jetties and headed north.
Scanning the water I found the bait out in about 26 feet of water, two tosses of the net and I had all I needed.

But I also had ground chum too. Trying a new to product, and it seemed to work great.

I like to anchor up, rather than drifting. The tide was really motoring, so anchoring was a whole lot better.

And before ya know it we had our first hook-up.

Just a small Shark, but a warmer upper.

It's been kinda slow on the shark fishing so far this year with no really good reports that I've heard of.

But the morning was early and the ocean was glass, Glenn and his family were here to just have a good time. Same as last year.

I started out with one pogie per hook on the bottom, and using 3 rods. But quickly went to two Pogies per hook, and also besides the Chum wer also cut up Pogies into small pieces and I tossed them out with my own version of a "bait bat"...you know one of those plastic wiffle ball bats with the end cut off.

Every one wanted to try this. Because it's kinda fun slinging or more like spraying pogies all across the water. Have to do something while waiting for a taker??

But as the area became saturated with smell, it didn't take long for everyone to get a chance on a rod and have their butts handed to them.

No monster Blacktips, but believe me "they were enough" for the average once a year ffisherman.

More Fishing Reports:

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
