Jacksonville fishing report:

Capt. Dave Sipler
May 9, 2012
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Had some really great folks aboard the Jettywolf lately. With no long boat rides, and hitting it on weekdays. We had plenty of chances to fish without any one around.

The emphasis has been, depart early and be done before the heat comes on.

Float-rig fishing the St. Johns River has been producing nice fish boxes of Speckled Trout. A "kicked back" way of fishing that all can do. From novice to begginers, everyone catches.

At the inlet, it's time to get some live Pogies and pin them to a 1/2 ounce jig and pitch them up to the ten ton jetty boulders and when you feel BUMP,BUMP. SET THE HOOK!

Believe it or not, the Redfish have been "keepers" at 26-27 inches. And they've ate huge 1/4 pound Pogies.

I try to get smaller baits. But sometimes you get what you can catch, so you have to just go with it.

More Fishing Reports:

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
