Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Each day has been a bit different than the next. Cool water on the reefs and beach one week, then east winds that blew it away the next.
Pogies everywhere, then none for the taking. Summer is an endless stream of quick changes.
Mulitudes of Shrimp boats circling in the chum-hole like the last shrimp is out there somewhere, then hardly a shrimp boat to be had.

So it seems that being rigidily flexible is the summer motto, coupled with most every charter is for the kids aboard. But kids have to be provided endless excitment or you know what happens....they get bored.

I wish I had these same trips when there is endless little fish for them to catch. Such as in the fall. Because Croakers and yellowmouth Trout sure are the ticket for the little ones in the St. Johns River.

And one trip for the little older "tweens" is Shrimp boat sharkin'. I love it when the sharks are thicker than the dolphins, and instantaneous hook-ups are the norm.

Adults like the action too. But we're also looking for Tarpon. Which seem to be a bit scarce this year.

I remember years when all I did was park atop the south jetty on an incoming tide and free-line Pogies out in the green water. And could have 10 hook-ups per day.

I guess that was the good ole days or something.

Of course Kingfishing is all the rage with a tournament going on every weekend.

But after July's big Kingfish tournement here in J-ville, finally marks the slow down of all that.

Now is when people should start thinking September fishing, and get the best tide dates for Big Reds in the river along with Trout fishing, and loads of Jetty action.

I believe I have only have 3 September dates pre-booked as of now. So good dates are still availible.
