Ne Florida's No Winter

Capt. Dave Sipler
February 23, 2017
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

NE FLORIDA has had no winter this "winter".

Right now it's 75 and just rained like hell all night.

In my opinion this had a severe effect on the Speckled Trout fishing early on. With too warm water temps, and too many bait stealers.

It's Feb 23 right now and this has to be the warmest Feb. I can ever remember.

Water temps on the river are 64-65 degrees.

I've slayed the Trout, Sheepshead and Black Drum in 56 degree water. So you can see the difference.

I've bounced back and forth from Trout fishing, to Sheepshead fishing more than I have ever done before.

Back and forth, because each time I'm out I learn more about dealing with the No Winter , winter.

More Fishing Reports:

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
