OH THOSE DEC. DAYS!

Capt. Dave Sipler
December 6, 2012
Jacksonville - Saltwater Fishing Report

N.E. Florida, Florida's First Coast, Jacksonville, what ever you want to call it,

December is always a GREAT month to be a angler!

As I write this report, it's 70 degrees and just got down sprinking rain all morning. For us that's pretty sweet.

And the fishing isn't not to shabby either.

This week has been filled with tempurature ups and downs. But the inshore ligh tackle fishing is so much fun.

Especially when I have "newbies" aboard the JETTYWOLF.

Margie from Colorado won a essay contest from Visit Jacksonville. And came in expenses paid from Colorado with husband Tom.

Staying at the really swanky "One Ocean hotel" at the beach and then fishing with me.

It was cool that morning, and windy. So I went to where cool and windy just makes them "chew better".

A quick run up the river put us in Mill Cove. A huge bay like area that is probably on the average 4 feet deep.

This time of year it's my high tide, windy, and cool GO-TO spot. Because we're out of the wind, there's loads of natural structure along with bridge pilings, submerged grass lines and plenty of Trout, Reds and Flounder.

I had Margie and Tom working floats with live shrimp on them.

And "never ever fished before" Margie was our newbie. So that means one thing.

Lots of bites. And being the Gal aboard, cinched the deal.

She had 1st fish, most fish, and largest fish.
Husband Tom, just worked to stay in contension.

Then we finished the day catching big Croakers on the bottom just for fun.

The rest of the week I've spent at the inlet catching some Whoppers on a slick calm sea and river........

More Fishing Reports:

Inshore fishing the St. Johns River, and estuaries around Jacksonville, Florida provides year round opportunities for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead to name just a few. Plus, seasonal favorites such as Shark, Tripletail and Pompano. The legendary Mayport Jetties are mile long piles of huge granite boulders that protect the inlet to the St. Johns River from the Atlantic Ocean. Around these jetties is some of the best and most consistent fishing.
