Fishing Report 3/26/10

Capt. Henry Hauch
March 28, 2010
Port Canaveral - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report 03-26-10

A narrow window between rough days allowed us to take out 3 guest for a day of fishing. The sea's were laying down the night before with the 20 mile bouy reporting 1.5' sea's and light winds. We knew it was forecast to pick up as the day went on, but nothing too bad till the evening.

Our trip out was 40mph all the way with 2' following sea's, so we were quickly to Pelican Flats. The forecast past 20 miles called for rougher conditions, and a few boating reports confirmed that. We found an active spot that would allow us to swing over the structure with the expected wind direction change as the day progressed. We did make a few passes over the reef pulling a variety of tackle, but no takers.
Anchoring up, and lines down meant the fish started comming in the boat. One of the first caught was.....well you can probably guess...Red Snapper. Fortuionatly they were not as thick this trip, and other fish had a chance at our bait.

Plenty of Sea Bass were to be had, and with them being a small member of the Grouper family, with
the taste to match, we took all that we could. Triggers were not as plentiful, but some nice ones were put in the icebox. We had a nice variety of Snapper to keep, with Lane, yellowtail and Mangrove comming back with us.Nothing followed our chum slick to the boat, and the only takers on our flatlines were the
pesky Remora.

Back at the docks, as other boats started comming in, it looked like the Mangrove were a common catch this day. The boats the did venture out to the deep blue managed slim catch's with one boat comming back with one Wahoo, and another boats catch a lonely Mahi. The big catch we seen brougt to the docks while we were cleaning fish was an 80 pound Cobia. We heard they caught it on a jig, after it swam to the boat. Only a few other smaller Cobia were seen being brought back to the docks.

Sea's started picking up as the day progressed, but the reide in was still not too bad, so a good day catching and a fairly dry ride back brought the trip to an end.
