Sebastian - Saltwater Fishing Report

Not too many trips for the past couple of weeks, but last Friday we did some scouting with our local buddies, Jack Balme and Rick Pino of Sebastian—both of whom are great fishermen. We had a few days of "cold" weather, and when we left the dock Friday morning the water temp was about 56 degrees, and we were interested in seeing if the fishing patterns had changed.
We started out along the Intracoastal islands, with no action except for a few small jacks and ladyfish. We then worked our way into the Inlet, where we drifted and got some fluke (summer flounder,) all on the short side, as well as a few small bluefish. Since the winds were fairly calm, we moved offshore a couple of miles in pursuit of cobia and king mackerel, but we didn't find any signs of life out there. At that time the ocean water temps were around 62, which probably accounted for the dearth of bait.
Disappointed, but not really surprised at what was going on, we returned to the Indian River one more time and found more small jacks and ladyfish, with temps at only 58.
There's no doubt that the lower temps have been a deterrent for local anglers, and we're going to try again in a few days if the waters warm up.
