Extreme Cold has Wreaked Havoc on Local Fishing

Capt. Sal Tardella

Sebastian - Saltwater Fishing Report

As most everyone knows, central Florida has been in a semi-deep freeze ever since New Year's Day; weather conditions are expected to improve later this week.

I've been unable (and unwilling) to get on my boat for two weeks, but the reports are bleak. There have been many local sightings of dead snook, numbering in the hundreds, and many other species have been seen floating dead on the Indian River. Offshore fishing has also been very disappointing for this time of year.

With the water temps so low right now, we don't expect to see too much improvement in conditions for a few weeks, and this unexpected fish kill may have done irreparable damage for many months in the future, as well. Only time will tell.

When things improve down here, we'll update our report.
