Sebastian - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, Emilio (Amin) Pandolfi of Danbury arrived down here last Thursday. As soon as he unpacked his one suitcase, we took him out to the Indian River to catch some pinfish and pigfish so we'd be ready to do some offshore fishing the following day.
We picked up our local buddy, Rick Pino, on Friday, and the three of us headed out into the ocean where there was a 3-4' chop. Our first stop was about 15 miles out, where we drifted along a wreck site. All we found there were some lizard fish. We moved another 20 miles from that spot to an artificial reef, where we drifted the pinfish and pigfish--as well as some cigar fish that we caught in that area. Some red snapper came in, but they were too small to be keepers. Along with the red snapper, however, were some grouper, sea bass, and ling snapper which we put into the live baitwell so they'd stay fresh for the rest of the trip. When we moved two miles north to another reef, we brought in a 7-pound fluke, more sea bass, trigger fish, and a nice kingfish.
It was a long day in the ocean, and everyone was still rocking for the rest of the evening after returning to the dock around 5pm.
A couple of days later we did some inshore fishing--first spending some time in the Sebastian Inlet, hoping to find some of the redfish we'd caught a couple of weeks ago, but the cold snap down here had taken them elsewhere. After about an hour we made the decision to stay on the River, fishing the flats. We had a nice catch of sea trout, jacks, bluefish, ladyfish, and one pompano.
Emilio's final day here was marred by wind and occasional rain, but he was satisfied to sit in our screen room and do some reading. His visit was brief, but it was filled with tight lines and enough sunshine to get him through the sleet and snow that he had to face when he returned to Connecticut on Tuesday.
