Sebastian - Saltwater Fishing Report
The Indian River and Sebastian Inlet have begun to warm up after two weeks of record-breaking sub-freezing weather. However, the cold water has left thousands of dead fish of every species floating everywhere and lying dead on shore. The snook seem to have taken the greatest hit, and state authorities have just closed snook fishing for at least the rest of the year. (Water temps are now being measured as between 58-60 degrees.)
A couple of days ago I went out with my friends, Jack Balme and Rick Pino, and we worked throughout the River and had four hits, landing a lizard fish. We then decided to try out luck in the Inlet, where we found numerous bluefish that hit our jigs. We boated 30 and released them all.
As a side note, Rick and two of his buddies went out on the ocean yesterday—about 40 miles offshore at 650 feet depths. They had a few hits, but boated only one keeper—a tile fish about 15 pounds.
I plan to wait another week before going out again to see if things improve. This season has been very disappointing thus far.
