Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome
September 27, 2001
Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Date Fished: 9/27/01

Water Temperature: 81

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

The lightening flashed, the thunder roared and the rain was more like the cascade of a waterfall, but not before we were able to get in some quality time on the Stick.

As with previous trips Carolina rigs worked best today. Water temps are holding constant at 81 degrees on the surface. Weather today was cloudy and than the rain came. Water is still running at all the usual places. The opening to the Stick Marsh is holding some fish but we didn't stay there long. Early AM saw a couple of fish come on topwater chug bugs.

The spillway has been closed down a little but I would expect it to be ripping tomorrow as the rain that is falling is heavy. Water levels are very high with water coming into Farm 13 from all areas. The Fellsmere Farm ditches are almost overflowing their banks so water will be coming in for some time to come. However, this is great news, because where the water is moving there are fish.

Before getting chased off the water we landed a lot of bass with the biggest being about 4 pounds. Hooking up to the pole and casting to the cable in the spillway with Carolina rigs produced hits on every cast. Bait of choice was a blue/glitter Senko rigged with a 3/8 ounce weight. It's not often that I carry on about a bait other than the chug bug, but I have to tell you: Senkos are about the best producing plastic that I have used in here under these conditions.

Hopefully we will get a bit longer out there tomorrow. At least long enough to get one of those 10+ pounders that the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 is famous for. Hope to see you out there. Say hi if you go by.
