Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

When you take and add together a smooth ride to the ramp, crisp cool morning temperatures, clear sunny skies, and clean water you have the makings for a perfect day on the water. Yesterday was one of those days and the emphasis would definitely have to be on a perfect day.
Date of trip: 10/2/01 – Time: Daylight until 2:00 PM – Air temperatures: 67 – 81 degrees – Surface water temperature: 77 degrees – Barometer: 30.05R – Moon phase: Full
Charlie Jackson and I headed for the spillway and today was the day for a mixed tackle bag. Hard jerk baits, soft jerk baits, top water baits, deep crank baits, Texas rigs, and Carolina rigs were all working. Current and structure were key ingredients to success. Our observation of the boats that were around us was that if you knew the structure and how to fish it you had a smashing success.
Carolina rig baits that worked best in our spot: Junebug lizards – Top water baits: chug bug – Texas rigs: Gold Senko/silver flake – Soft jerk bait: Smoke/white fluke – Deep cranks: Lime green- Hard jerk baits: shad
Important things to remember is the next cast can be the big fish so keep on casting. See you on the water.
