Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome

Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

The weatherman was very accurate with the report today and the rains came and wind howled, but what the weatherman forgot to mention was that it would be the perfect weather for the bass.

When we got to the ramp this morning there was one boat putting in and one hardy soul already somewhere on the lake. We were a bit late as our shiner delivery came overland rather than over the lake. Joe Middleton could not get across Blue Cypress this morning as it was kicking really badly there. However our trip to the spillway wasn’t bad as we had a lull in the weather.

Onboard today was Jack Goldsmith and his business partner’s daughter Kiley Coleman. Kiley is 14 and based on the weather she was coming out in quite an avid Fisher gal. Jack had told me that she could Bass fish with the best of them and I can now attest to that claim. She fished non-stop from 7AM until we headed for the ramp at 2PM.

When we arrived at the spillway it was running pretty hard. At about 11:30 SJWMA arrived and lowered the gate to ½’ open but the fishing remained strong. We free-lined the shiners, hooking them in the lips and used a split shot to get them down a bit in the current. There were almost no wasted shiners today as the bass were more them hungry for them and hit them hard rather than toying with them. The way there they were hitting kept me hopping from front to back deck and before we knew it, it was time to head out. Jack and Kiley are going again tomorrow and wanted to rest up a bit. Total bass for the day: 90 fat Bass – Big bass went to Kiley and I will be putting a picture of it and a couple of others from the 40+ that she boated up on my page when I get back home.

If you’re heading out tomorrow look for much improved weather with relatively clear skies and breezy conditions. Water surface temps are 70-71. See ya out there
