Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome
December 8, 2001
Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Date Fished: 12/6/01

Water Temperature: 74

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Weather today was forecasted to be 40% chance of rain and wind 10-20 MPH. With an artificial trip for tomorrow we wanted to get out and see if we could establish some sort of successful pattern that could be the starter for tomorrow.

It was agreed as we left the ramp that we would not place too much demand on ourselves so the agreed goal was 30 bass "in the boat". Our starting time was 7:30 AM.

What can a Senko do for you? Our thought was to go to the NW area of the Marsh where we have been getting outstanding catches on shiners and see if the Senkos fished weightless just might kick these bass into hitting artificial. The Senko is such an outstanding bait that we had a fair amount of confidence that they would do the trick. All I can say is "whoopee"! The rain came through, the wind stayed mild, and the Senkos produced as if they were live shiners. We spent most of our time anchored and made only 4 moves to get the 30 bass. The Big fish topped out on the Boga Grip at 9 pounds 9 ounces. Of the 30 bass, 7 were over 5 pounds not counting the big guy and we had only one fish that was small. I don't think that any other bait could have performed the way the Senko did. We were using a dark blue 5" Senko and the bass were in love with it.

Pulling up stakes and heading for the ramp we looked at our watch in amazement. The time was 10:30. Three hours working with the Senkos and we had our goal met. Bruce Woodward, you know where we were fishing, as does all of our clients over the last few weeks. The NW area of the Stick Marsh is producing fish! Kirk, all the fish were 80 feet west of where we caught all those good fish.

Date Fished: 12/7/01

Water Temperature: 75

Water Clarity: 0

Date Fished: 12/7/01 - Weather: Clouds and rain showers - Time fished: Daylight till 2:30PM

Area fished: NW area of the Marsh, along the west shore, and spent most of the day in the SW area of the Marsh. Keys that we looked for were clean water, and sparse hydrilla.

Baits used: Chug Bugs and Senkos - Best bait: Senko (any color) Non-weighted -

Starting at the NW area of the Marsh Jack Goldsmith and I quickly headed westward hitting a couple of clear areas and then headed south. In the SW area we moved way off shore and proceeded top work edges of hydrilla beds. The best bite was during rain or when the wind came up with the storms. Senkos produced most fish, although the biggest fish came on the chug bug. This double-digit beauty inhaled the bug almost as fast as it hit the water.

At quitting time we had boated 43 bass with most being 3 pounds or better.

Have a great time out there and say hi if you pass by. I will be in Mexico from the 12th - 16th but Scott will be out there.
