Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Date Fished: 12/29/01
Water Temperature: 66
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet
The weather has rapidly improved into the weekend. Warm weather and light winds have made for an ideal time to be fishing on the Marsh. The northerners have been taken advantage and we have seen boats from just about every state east of the Miss.
Yesterday Scott was out with Bo White and friends again and they spent the whole day on the Farm which included some time in the spillway area. Bo opted for shiners again and they had a pretty good day with 25+ fish to the boat with the big fish weighing in at 10.5 pounds.
I met Rob Hoffman who is from Florida and his Father-In-Law Frank who is from Indianna and they wished to do shiners also. Once we had shiners in hand we headed to the NW area of the Stick Marsh. With several minor adjustments to location we were able to get 24 bass with the biggest only at 5 pounds.
Today I met Greg Culpepper and his wife Monica who are down from Atlanta and decided that a day of fishing went well with their visit to Disney. We picked up our shiners and headed to the same NW area of the Stick Marsh, but we were quickly joined by several boats. A couple of the boats, (from the same state so I assume they were together) thought that casting distance was more than adequate space so they decided to anchor up next to us. We pulled anchor and set off for other locations. Moving to an offshore location along the west wall that I have been fishing artificial baits we set up shop for the remainder of the day. Before the move we had 4 bass. The first two shiners were immediately eaten by a 4 pound and a 6 pound bass. Monica was ahead 5 to 1 which set the tone for the day. After the two bass we hit a lull and I moved 25 feet in a couple of different directions to no avail. About 11:00 I announced that if they didn't get busy and catch me some fish in the next ten minutes we would move. Within one minute of that announcement there was a giant flush on Monica's shiner and the 1st 10 pounder came to the boat. This was the beginning of what would keep both Greg and Monica hopping for the next 3 hours. The second big fish, a 11 pounder came on a shiner that I had set off to the side of the boat withing 15 minutes of Monica's big one. The third, and fourth big fish, both 10+ came within another 15 minutes. At about 1:30 Greg was working his bait of the side when the water erupted and another big gal launched into the air and came down hard on his shiner. There was nothing left but to reel her in as she had hooked herself. Needless to say, it was a day of dancing on the deck, lots of laughter and whooping, and happy smiles all around. The end result for the day: 40+ bass to the boat and 6 bass over ten. Incidently, not that it matters, but all the fish were weighed on a Boga Grip. Greg is going tomorrow without Monica so we are definitely hoping for an encore. As Greg said also, he has every intention of catching more bass than Monica tomorrow.
See ya on the water. Say hi if you pass by.
