Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome
January 8, 2002
Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Yesterday's weather: Cold, windy, and occassional light drizzle

Yesterday's fishing: outstanding, excellent, dynamic, kept us warm and dry

Leaving the ramp at daylight, (daylight is about 10 minutes earlier now) we made the cool run to the Farm to pick up shiners from Joe Middleton. Tom Milder and Dave Frantz, both from Iowa City, Iowa were back with us for another go at our great fishery. Last time they were here the weather was nicer but I have to tell you the fishing didn't come close to this trip.

Fishing in the SE area of the Marsh where wind driven current was active proved to be the ticket. Two shiners hit the water and two bass came to the boat. Although the bite came and went several times during the day the activity was strong enough to keep everyone busy right up until 3:00pm. Lots of pictures on my page: Tom and Dave landed several bass over 8 pounds and the big one came in at 9.75 pounds. Almost all these gals had spawned. All were fat and healthy. The action was something that Tom and Dave will talk about the rest of this year and we look forward to seeing them again in 2003. We did not see a bass that weighed under 4.5 pounds on the Boga Grip out of all the bass that made it to the boat. I lost count somewhere during the day as the action came in really hot and furious flurries, but I know we caught well over 25 of these big and exciting Stick Marsh Bass.

See ya on the water.
