Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome
January 12, 2002
Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 1/10/02

Water Temperature: 58

Water Clarity: 1 foot

Date fished: 1/10/2002

Weather: Very cold in the AM but warming up nicely relatively early

Departed the ramp on a late start, 9:00 AM, as it was a bit frosty at first light. First stop was the SE area of the Marsh and the Senkos did there job as we placed 6 nice bass, (biggest 5.0 pounds), in the boat by 11:00. From there we headed south into the Farm and tried several areas along the south wall until we got to Pinball Alley. This area is loaded with stumps and laydown even though very little is visible right now and we found it loaded with Bass. Not big ones, most in the 1.5 - 3.0 pound range, but plenty willing to play tug-a-war with us. At 1:30 it was as if someone waved a wand however and the bite stopped. We spent another hour casting away and then called it a day at 2:30. Total catch for the day: 24 bass with the top end at the 5.0 pound.

Date fished: 1/11/02

Weather: Cold early on and warming into the 70's by 11:00

Scott and I headed out at 7:30 this morning and starting working in the SE area of the Marsh. A lot of this area is open water with little hydrilla at the surface and the water is fairly clean compared to the rest of the Marsh. Throwing weightless Senkos we worked this area long enough to boat 14 bass. Biggest from this area was about 4 pounds. We then went to the SW area of the Farm and starting working our way eastward about 200 feet away from the shore; (hyacinth bank). We picked up 7 bass after covering the distance from the SW until we got to Pinball Alley. Again, as yesterday, the bass were willing and we boated another 9 bass. We then swung by the pumphouse to see it it was on but it wasn't. Heading back to the SE end of the Marsh we finished out by 1:30 and only boated one more bass up here.

If you are throwing artificial baits you have to find the open water and the cleaner the better. Some of the areas that will not be as productive: Shorelines, the E/W tree line on the Stick Marsh, The tree line along the N/S rim canal of the Marsh. Don't be deceived by the Palm trees - no root structure there: The shore areas just don't hold a lot of bass most of the time.

Good luck out there. See you on the water.
