Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 1/17/02

Water Temperature: 62

Water Clarity: 1 foot

The weather has warmed and will be getting warmer as we go into the weekend. However, with the warm weather this time of the year comes the fog, and it gets very dense on the Marsh. Remember, that there can be a lot of boats fishing in the center ditch and running in the fog can be quite dangerous. We had a lot of brave souls out there this morning and no fish is worth what can happen when two boats meet each other in the fog. Another thought while talking about safety: I know the water appears high and you don't see the stumps and stickups in the Marsh. However, they are there and running in the Marsh can cost you more than a lower unit if you meet one of the hardwoods head on. Getting launched off your boat can be a very painful experience.

I started fishing this morning in the SE area of the Marsh using spinner bait, Senko, and chug bug. All produced fish but the best bait was the Senko. In the SE section of the Stick Marsh you will find a lot of open water and my best results have been as I headed NW and as far in as I could get. Fish are found next to areas of hydrilla that is clumped and you need to fish all around these small mats.

I rode across the Marsh today to see if any of the middle areas have opened up. Not only is none of the middle areas open, but they are completely matted at the surface.

I fished the NW area and then started down the west wall of the Marsh making my way to the SW. I found fish located just about 1/2 way down and about 350 feet off the shoreline. This school of fish has been there for some time now and although I picked up a couple I kept on moving leaving them for another day.

I worked several of the mats in the SW area to no avail. At 1:00 I called it a day. Total fish caught was 16 with the biggest fish weighing only about 3.5 pounds. Most of the fish came from the SE area of the Marsh.

Be careful out there. See you on the water.

PS: I heard that the pump house was running back on the farm. Remember, if back there, it is a must check area.
