Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 1/23/02

Water Temperature: 68

Water Clarity: 0

We are barely off the water long enough to get the reports out. My e-mail chastisements have forced me to get on the stick even though I should be pushing my head deep into my pillow.

Date fished: 1/20/02 Weather: AM fog clearing - warm in the mid to upper 79's - barometer 30.10 Bait used: shiners Rod Blank and his son Travis were here from the cold reaches of Montana soaking up the heat and shaking off some of those "cabin fever" blues that can set in. However, they did mention drilling holes through the frozen water and catching some of those Pike like creatures that grow up there. We fished the SW area of the Marsh and basically I lost count on the numbers caught. Big fish was between 6 and 7 Lbs.

Date fished: 1/21/02 Weather: Light fog clearing to a gorgeous day in the high 70's - barometer: 30.01 Bait used: Shiners Joe and Carol were down for their annual trip from nearby Georgia and are staying at Middleton's Camp on Blue Cypress. They wanted to get some time on the Stick Marsh, catch some fish and learn what they could about the Marsh/Farm as they would be back with their boat. The fish cooperated fully and we ran out of shiners and spent a bit of time with plastics before we toured the lake. I am not supposed to say it but the Mrs. reigned supreme on the count but Joe promised to catch up over the next few days. Again today we fished the SW area of the Marsh.

Date fished: 1/22/02 Weather: Clear with light winds and temps in the high 70's - Barometer 30.18 Bait used: Shiners Our group today was 7 gents in the telecommunication industry down for their annual convention who had the chance to get out here and do some fishing. I took 2, Scott took 3, and Randy Sanders pitched in with the other two. Scott and I headed to the middle west side of the Marsh and Randy headed to the SW area of the Farm. Today was tough with the shiners but Rod Mogard under the excellent tutelage of Randy latched onto and got a 10.3 pound lunker to the boat. Total numbers were down but everyone assured us that any day fishing is better than a day in a seminar. They also assured us that the weather here is a lot better than their homestate of Minnesota at this time of the year.

Date fished: 1/23/02 Weather: Almost summer-like Florida weather with temps that reached the low 80's - Barometer 30.2 and falling Bait used: Artificials that included Senkos, other plastics T-rigged and crankbaits. Jim Pampinella Larry Winston were here from Bonita Springs, Florida and a veteran and avid bass fishermen. Scott took them to the SW area of the Farm and it didn't take long to locate the proper spot to have a banner day. The bait that worked the best again was the Senko but fish did come on all the other baits used. 45 bass to 6.5 pounds cooperated. The fishing on the Farm or the Marsh is exciting and we expect things to only get better. There are fish all over the south end of the Farm and can be found in the SE and SW areas of the Marsh. Just about any bait is working well, but plastics seem to produce the most hits.

See you on the water. Say hi if you get the chance.
