Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 1/31/02

Water Temperature: 70+

Water Clarity: 1 foot

Due to my Mother's demise last Friday I have been remiss in getting up reports. We have had 8 trips since the 23rd and the fishing has been really good.

Weather has been fantastic, particularly compared to last winter, with mild temperatures, light winds and plenty of sunshine.

Artificial baits are working better than shiners for the most part and catches have been in the 25 to 35 fish range with a good number of them weighing between 5 and 7 pounds. Most of our fishing has been in the SW and south areas of the Farm with little attention given to the Stick Marsh side. Bait of choice has been Senkos and I have to tell you they have been outproducing most baits with a pretty impressive lead.

1/24 - Jim Pampinella on his second day out - 35 fish with the big one of 7 pounds, all on Senkos.

1/25 - Mario Costa and wife - 20 fish with the big fish of 5.5 pounds, mixed shiners and artificial.

1/26 - Scott and I - 23 fish in the boat by 1:00 with big fish being 5.5 pounds, all on Senkos.

1/28 - Eric Dotseth's trip yielded 40 fish all in the 3 pounds range all caught on Senkos.

1/28 - I went scouting and picked up 30 plus bass with the biggest being 6.5 pounds, all caught on Senkos.

1/29 - Doug Glison on his second trip found conditions totally different from last year but still managed 35 to the boat, and again most came on Senkos. However there was a pleasing topwater bite early on and 10 of those bass came on a chug bug.

1/29 - I had a last minute booking and Mike and I picked up 30 plus bass with all being caught with Senkos.

1/30 - Tommy Miller and relatives opted for shiners and with both boats working we boated about 30 fish total. There were some misses, but most of the day was spent with the bass mouthing and chewing on the shiners. However, this family group knows how to have a great time and they kept us wildly entertained all day. As Tommy say's, "there is a lot more to fishing than just hauling in fish".

The Senko bite has been on 5" baits in dark colors. It didn't matter as long as the bait was dark. All of the fishing has been in the SW area of the Farm and along the south wall of the Farm. As someone said, they saw some catching plenty of bass and I have to tell you, it was the Senkos that made the difference.

See you on the water. Say hi if you pass by or see us at the ramp.
