Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Stick Marsh/Farm13
Date Fished: 2/3/02 – 2/4/02
Water Temperature: 70+
Water Clarity: 1 foot
The fishing on the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 continues to be excellent. Sunday I meet my clients Mike Fravert and his son Mikey for a day of fishing with shiners. After picking up our 6-dozen shiners from Joe Middleton we headed straight for the Spillway. Starting out anchored within 15’ of the point the action started right away with the bass eating our free lined shiners. After catching several Bass up to 5.5lbs I decided to move over to the east wall and free line the shiners under the Hyacinth. Free lining shiners under Hyacinth requires lots of patience’s but when done correctly can be extremely productive. Mike and his Son (8 years old) did an excellent job hooking and catching the bass. At 1:30 our last shiner was eaten and we called it a day with 45 Bass making there way into the boat. The two big keys for us today were being patient and free lining the shiners. One of the biggest mistake I see on the water all the time is fishermen giving up on an area way to quick. There are many times when the Bass will come and go in waves, and if you catch a couple and then they stop biting don’t be so quick to move in most cases they will start biting again.
George meet Chuck Burleson and his fishing partner Wayne Wilson for a day of artificial fishing. The bait of choice was Senkos in dark colors, and rigged wacky style using weed less hooks. They spent there day fishing the SW area of Farm 13, Pinball Alley, and the southern shore of the Farm catching over 30 Bass.
Monday I had the pleasure of taking out Sid Ryan and his wife Abby from Virginia. With a cold front moving in and 20mph winds out of the NW we were definitely in for a challenge. With our rods rigged with Senkos we headed straight for the SW area of the Farm were the bite has been awesome. Starting well of the shoreline and using the wind to drift toward the shore we starting catching Bass right away. After a few drifts I was able to determine where the fish were and shorten up our drift. By 1:30 we had over 25 Bass in the boat with the largest Bass weighing 4lbs. One of the most important things to remember is to really work an area well. I have seen way to many fishermen catch one or two fish and keep going, and in most cases your leaving lots of fish behind. Another way to increase your catch is to pay attention to the other fishermen. If you see someone catching fish and your not try what he is doing and hopefully you will start catching more fish. This does not mean fish on top of them! If you see us on the water come over and ask for our help we will be glad to try and send you in the right direction.
Scott
See you out there. Say hi if you get a chance.
