Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services Date Fished: 7/27/02Water Temperature: 88Water Clarity: 0 6:30 AM - removed the boat cover: not only got wet from the dew on the cover but from the air also. It was raining without raindrops. 7:00 AM - worked the center N/S ditch on the farm. 2 fish in the boat and as the sun rose so did the temperature. Lots of boats out today but not many out here in the open water. Guess the spillway was a gathering place for all the fishermen. 7:30 AM - 5 more in the boat and the breeze that was blowing out of the SE was quickly laying down. 8:00 AM - Gave a rattletrap a try and hit on the first cast. Nice fish but nothing to take a picture of. At this point I was about half as wet as the bass. 2nd cast with the trap and the size was decreasing. Went back to the Carolina rig. Scott rigged a jig'N'trailer as we retraced our steps. 9:30 AM - 10 more bass in the boat and we had as much water dripping off us as the bass did. Tied everything down and headed westward to the next ditch. 10:00 AM - Scott peeled his shirt off and threw it in the lake - it didn't look any wetter than when he took it off. 11:00 AM - Seven more bass and temperatures soaring! I could have sworn I saw a camel walking across the lake but camels and lions don't live together and Scott saw three lions at the oasis in the middle of the Farm. Decided that enough was enough and departed for air-conditioning and the shower. See you all on the water. Have a great day and say hi if you get the chance.

At 11:15 Scott came through with a 9.25 lunker caught with a black/blue 5" Senko rigged on a Carolina Rig. The area was the north end of the west N/S ditches from the east side of the ditch. Prior to that we had been fishing the center N/S ditch and had accumulated 51 bass by 11:00. Our 53rd was a stout 5.5 pounds and it came on a black/red flaked Senko on a Carolina rig. With that catch we locked everything down and headed to see what water was moving. The spillway is running full tilt but the pipes are closed down as of this morning. The pump on the east wall was running full tilt. We fished the spillway long enough to boat another 20 bass and then we called it a day at about 1:00 PM. Great day on the water. Say hi if you get near.

Jack Goldsmith left his waterproof bag on his last visit and used its retrieval as a reason to hit the Marsh again. Ready and raring to go on the morning of the 22nd, Jack and I headed straight out to the ditches of the Farm. Using Carolina rigs we worked the east side of the center N/S ditch with various baits. We were marking lots of bass and some pretty good size ones. However, the bite was picky and as the morning wore on I watched the fish leave the area. What the bass were doing was moving southward towards the intersection and south areas of the Farm. Why? The pipes in the spillway had been opened again and with the fresh and increased flow the bass were heading back for some easy dining. As the heat cranked up we called it a day at 1:00. Eric Alinger and his son Jared showed up for a day of fishing on the 23rd. Knowing that they had opened the water flow up we headed for the spillway area. What we found was increased flow because the pipes had been opened, lots of debris floating through and few bass. Leaving the spillway we headed out to the ditches and worked the same location on the north end of the center ditch. It proved to be the right move as Carolina rigs produced lots of bass and some that weighed in the Boga Grip with pretty good weights. Fish to 8 pounds cooperated. Lots of fish in the 3-5 pound range are lining these canals. See you out there, have a great day on the water and say hi if you're in the area.

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services Date Fished: 7/25/02Water Temperature: 84Water Clarity: 2-3 feet With the lessening of the flow of water due to backup as it heads north you need to get yourself out and on the canals of Farm 13. Fishing out there is outstanding with good size bass lining the canals. We have had good success on both intersections and along the north ends of all canals. Of particular interest for Mike Peace and his son John Michael on the 19th and 20th was the north end of the center ditch. Mike and John went for a split session beginning on the afternoon of the 19th and the morning of the 20th. The first session was called short due to storms but not before finding some pretty good bass. We headed out on the 20th to the same location and the fish were right were we had left them. Using Carolina rigs we had a banner morning and quit about 1 PM with a memorable day for all. John Michael is 9, but fished like a veteran. The weather is warm and the fishing is hot. Have plenty of liquid, lots of sun protection, and ready muscles as the fish will definitely give you a workout if you get on them. There are not many boats out there so you will probably be fishing alone most of the time. I set out a marker to mark the school and the only boat we saw all day found my marker and anchored up about 15 feet away from it. Oh well, all in a days fishing. We just moved down the canal and found a bigger school. Have a great day out there and say hi if you get the chance.
