Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome
August 7, 2002
Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

I got a call for an assist on a 1/2-day trip for Sunday from Randy Sanders. Randy has pitched in a helped me several times so off to the lake I went and met with Clay and Austin Booth from Oklahoma City. It seems neither had much bass fishing experience but both were anxious to give it a go.

Randy and I headed out with our crews to the boat trails and as has been the bait of choice lately, our Carolina rigs were at the ready. It was to be a tough bite today and sensing the bite was going to be the challenge for the Booths. The bass were biting, but tentatively at best, and if you weren't quick on the trigger you weren't going to hook them.

With trial and error, a lot of grass and stone hits, and the finicky bass, Clay and Austin managed 11 bass to the boat before the 1/2-day was up. I wished they had opted for a full day as the fish were starting to get more aggressive.

One of the tough decisions is whether to fish a 1/2-day or a full day and in every case we recommend a full day. Although we can get you on fish, we just can't predict when they will go into action. We can pick them off when they are closed mouth, but the bite can be nothing short of phenomenal when they turn on. Of course there will be those days when a 1/2-day or full day just doesn't make much difference.

Remember the heat and sun and come prepared. Also remember the mosquitoes in the early AM. It's not too smart to show up with no bug spray. See you on the water.
