Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 10/4/02

Water Temperature: 87

Water Clarity: 1 foot

James "Chip" Bennett and Scott "Hooter" Hootman arrived at the ramp bright and early, ready to see how close they could come to matching some of the catches that they have read about on this fantastic lake.

We were rigged and ready to go with rattletraps, weightless Senkos, and Carolina rigged Senkos, so we proceeded directly to the ditches on Farm 13.

Returning to the center N/S ditch we started southward throwing a mix of baits to see if the big ones were up and active. Stopping at the same location that I reported on in the last report we boated a fair amount of bass to 5.5 pounds, with the bite rotating through all the baits at different times. Deciding to give this area a rest we headed west to the shack on the west wall.

Working our way eastward we managed a few fish, but size just wasn't there. We worked this ditch all the way back to the intersection on the center N/S ditch. By this time we had been off the previous area for about an hour so I decided it was time to return.

We weren't back on the spot for more than 10 minutes when the shad bust came, but not on the side of the ditch where we were, but on the opposite side. Anchor up and away we went. For the rest of the day we caught and caught and caught.

The bite had focused down to the Carolina rigs and weightless Senkos as the bass would only rise when shad passed through. We did get some more on the rattletraps but they had a definite taste for the Senkos.

By the time we headed for the ramp we had boated 86 bass, with the biggest being our morning 5.5 pounder. We did have a good amount of 3 & 4 pounders but never did get into a truly big lunker. The guys informed me that they were saving that for tomorrow as we will be heading out at first light for another attack on this fantastic fishery.

Keep an eye and ear open for those shad busts. They are happening and they ring the bell for some fantastic fishing. See you out there.
