Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome

Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 12/6/02

Water Temperature: 64

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Yesterday started out with calm winds, calm waters, and fish showing on the graph right where they should be. However, all was to change rapidly as John Caringi and myself worked our rattletraps on the north edge of the SW nursery area in the Farm. The calm was shattered by 7:30 with winds that quickly increased to 30+ MPH, but not before we had boated several bass.

The rest of the day was spent finding spots where we could cast and not be blown off the boat. Several fish were caught off the point of the center levee, and several more in the hole at the entrance to the Marsh. Windblown but feeling pretty good for it all, we departed at 2:00 with 18 bass boated. Not bad for such rough conditions.

Today Scott took John and they headed to the spillway with 6-dozen shiners. 3.5 hours later and 48 bass boated they were out of shiners and ready to head out to try some artificial fishing.

I started in the deep SW area of the Farm with Mark Kirshner and Mark Colvin with 10-dozen shiners but we didn't have the success that Scott was having. We had the hits but in this area of the Farm the bass were more interested in playing with their food then they were in eating it. I guess they were never taught that one should not play with their food.

I talked with Scott at about 9:15 and we headed over to the spillway area. As Scott pulled out we moved in. The bite hung in through the balance of the 10-dozen shiners and although not as hot and furious as it had been for Scott, we still ran out by 2:00. Off to the ramp we went, calling the almost 60 bass day a smashing success.

Scott in the meantime headed to the SW area of the Farm to try the rattletrap but the wind came up again to day and made that an option that wasn't too good. Heading out for the NW area of The Marsh was Scott's next plan but not long after getting there the wind did another turn and came ripping out of the east. By days end they did manage to bring John's count over the 50 mark.

Tomorrow John and I will head out to do it again and I hope that the wind blows just a little less. See you out there. Say hi if you get the chance.
