Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 12/13/02

Water Temperature: 68

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

This was the weather synopsis for today: Winds 20 - 25 with gusts much more severe. Rain showers with occasional thunderstorms with severe winds and possible tornado conditions.

I watch the weather closely as it dictates at times that we have to be always prepared to run for cover. However, being a weatherman is probably the only job that one can have, be wrong almost all the time, and still get paid and keep the job. Today the weatherman was almost correct. We had steady rain, the thunderstorms came through as squalls, and the wind howled. For most of the day 20 - 25 was pretty close to accurate and with the squalls came winds in excess of 50 MPH. With every squall we were in safe cover and they were really something to watch.

I mention the conditions because the bass loved every minute of it. We started the day at the cut into the Marsh, throwing Carolina rigs. We fished there for about an hour and landed 4 bass including one on crank bait.

From there we went to the SE corner of the Marsh which proved fruitless. I ran down the canal but instead of turning into the Farm I did a u-turn. All we could see on the Farm was waves and whitecaps as the SSW wind churned it into an unholy mess.

With thoughts of heading back to our starting point I opted to check the pipes that come from the Farm up in the NE corner of the Marsh. I had checked early this morning at which time they were closed, but with all the rain just maybe they would be open. Someone was smiling down upon us because all three gates were flowing full tilt. That's where we sat the balance of the day.

Using Carolina rigs tipped with Senkos Ned Bryant from Texas and Tom from Port St Lucie boated another 59 bass with the biggest about 4 pounds. No big gals came aboard, but there were a couple missed. We tried some other plastics but after several casts with no bites it was back to the Senko which was producing a bite on almost every cast. This was the first time either fellow had used C-rigs to any extent, but by days end they were C-rig converts, and Senko Enthusiast.

Wind blown, wet and tired we headed back to the ramp at 2:30 just before another storm came in. Although the weather was horrible, the Stick Marsh provided another fantastic day.

See you on the water. Have a great Holiday Season.
