Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 12/24/02

Water Temperature: 60

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Just a real quick report for those that are going right after Christmas. The spillway was running but who knows for how long.

Kurt Douglas from Colorado and his son-in-law Jimmy from Orlando came out today and with the weather forecast of high winds they opted to give shiners a try.

We started in the spillway, but decided on another spot pretty quickly. Heading to the SW of the Farm proved to be a good choice and 1:45 we had gone through 8-dozen shiners. Biggest fish was just under 7 pounds. One major bonus today was only one pickeral and one mudfish in the whole day. We got off the lake just before the weather started moving in and everyone went off to celebrate the rest of the Holiday Season with fantastic memories of a fantastic trip on the Stick Marsh.

Anyone looking to fish after Christmas? I have had four trips cancelled due to emergency so we have time if you find yourself looking for something to do over the next few days.

Have a great Holiday and see you on the water.

Ray Valdera and his friend had a short drive from Orlando but in that hour and a half ride the temperatures only got colder as they came south. This is a usual phenomenon however, as the early dawn always has a drop. It was a chilly ride across the lake, and with shiners in the live well it was the long one to the spillway.

8 dozen shiners, free lined and pitched to the hyacinth edges didn't last long and by 11:00 we were headed out into the lake to finish out the day with artificials.

Starting out at the fisherman's shack on the west wall we worked our way SSE throwing rattle traps. Eventually we worked our way over to the 1st N/S ditch and then northward. We weren't slaying them, but we were picking as we went. For our last half hour we tried the area around the fisherman's shack and picked a few more.

At days end we had boated over 60 bass to 6 pounds, had a ton of laughs, and the temperatures had warmed to t-shirt weather. Having a great time on the water is what this sport is all about, and today we had it all.

See you on the water. Say hi if you get the chance.
